The first hint of a stir came just after Election Day, when the computer servers at Americans United for Life crashed. People were swamping the Web site to sign a petition urging President-elect Barack Obama to stand firm against abortion.
“I got a call from one of our guys, ‘We have a problem,’ ” said Charmaine Yoest, the group’s president and chief executive officer. “And I was like, ‘The problem would be what?’ ”

Bombarded at every turn with sexually explicit messages, American teenagers need comprehensive sex education. As they might put it, it's time to keep it real.
For the past eight years, this country has done a disservice to young people by spending $1 billion to push an abstinence-only message that disregards the importance of other viable methods to prevent pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

MTV has joined Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and the Kaiser Family Foundation to inform young people of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), which, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), affect one in four teenage girls.

New Jersey residents are having a harder time paying for health care insurance than most other Americans, an advocacy group said today.
A report from Families USA, a liberal advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., said 32 percent under age 65 were uninsured at some point in 2007 and 2008 -- up from 26 percent in 1999 and 2000.

Planned Parenthood of Central Jersey is participating in a nationwide campaign with MTV and the Kaiser Family Foundation titled "GYT: Get Yourself Tested." The goal is to increase testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs, and sexually transmitted infections, or STIs, among those under 25.
