PRINCETON BOROUGH -- New Jersey drivers supporting a woman's right to choose are being asked to show their support with a honk today.
The Planned Parent Association of the Mercer Area will commemorate the 37th Anniversary of Roe V. Wade with its annual "Honk and Wave" visibility event from 2 to 3 p.m. in front of Monument Park in Princeton.
The public is invited to join Planned Parenthood at the corners of Routes 206 and 27 to greet cars and passersby, and "show the people of Mercer that New Jersey is proudly a pro-choice state," said Jennifer Miller, vice president of community services.
"Every year we do this," she said, adding that the message of the event signifies support of women's health equality and freedom to control their own body and fertility.
In addition to waving, supporters are asked to bring homemade signs to the event.
"Come and join us for an hour," Miller said. "It's a fun way to be proudly pro-choice, and an easy way to get involved with Planned Parenthood."
Miller said that Planned Parenthood has been doing this for five years to remind people about the historic decision, which decriminalized abortion in the United States. She added that there is still a long way to go with educating women about their reproductive health care options.
Planned Parenthood offers a full range of information, including contraceptive information, parenting advice, information about sexually transmitted diseases and treatment, abortion services, doctor referrals, and well care.
"We offer a full range of reproductive health care options," she said.
