TRENTON -- The Senate approved a bill providing better reimbursement for the 60 family planning clinics operating in New Jersey that serve low-income and uninsured women.

The legislation would transfer $149,000 from the state Health and Senior Services Department to the Department Human Services, which provides Medicaid funding for routine screenings, treatment of sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy detection and prenatal and postnatal care, among other services. Abortions would not be paid for with the money.

The bill (S-3055) moves to the Assembly for consideration.
