College Organizing Interns
The Planned Parenthood Affiliates of New Jersey (PPANJ), the statewide public affairs presence of Planned Parenthood in the Garden State, is seeking several interns for the upcoming school year for approximately 10-15 hours per week. PPANJ is committed to providing an internship experience that complements the intern’s skills and interests.
Job Description: Work directly with PPANJ and local staff to organize supporters both in the college community and in the neighboring areas to further the work and mission of Planned Parenthood.
Position: College Organizing Intern
Locations: Trenton, Newark
Responsible To: Organizing and Volunteer Coordinator and local staff
Qualifications: Detail oriented, organized, reliable transportation, responsible, computer literate, and strong communication skills. Must possess a strong commitment to the work and mission of Planned Parenthood. Previous organizing or campus advocacy work a plus.
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours a week. Some nights and weekends
Goals
- Connecting PPANJ and local staff with college students and members of the neighboring communities.
- Educating students on current reproductive health and policy issues.
- Strengthening Planned Parenthood’s grassroots network of political activists.
- Developing the next generation of reproductive justice leaders.
Examples of Projects
- Help NJ electorate have their voices heard
- Write letters to the editor of campus and local newspapers with the purpose of making the pro-choice voice heard.
- Help coordinate a visibility campaign for Sex-Ed Awareness month.
- Share information about campus with Planned Parenthood teen groups by hosting a tour or speaking on panel.
- Phone banking and letter writing to engage supporters and effect change with Members of Congress and/or the NJ State Legislature.
- Table to recruit new activists, gather signatures on petitions, and register voters.
- Assist local affiliates with projects specific to that area of the state. (Could include data entry, help with mailings, special outreach projects, research, marketing, etc.)
- Collaboration with other student groups on campus on social justice issues.
- Determine feasibility of starting a pro-choice student group (aka Vox group) on campus.
